After recovering from the chaos that was… the other day… our crew finally made it into Susopolis! It’s a really cool place so far, they really love music here so its like the whole city has its own rhythm its always grooving too. And you can always find somebody playing a tune in the streets.
In fact, when we first got there, Theo was so enamored with the mood he whipped out his guitar and started an impromptu jam session; gathered a whole band and everything. It was cool to see and makes me think Theo’s gonna do just fine at the jamboree.
Getting there was… a bit overwhelming at first. We had like, a hundred things we needed to take care of. Find a place to stay, stock up on gear, research and prep for a jamboree and a gym, and all I wanted to do was eat! That route was so long, I couldn’t stop thinking about BBQ sandwiches… I think that’s the first thing I’m eating when I get back home.
We got pointed in the direction of a few good spots for lunch, and there were all sorts of tasty smells, but Lilly steered us towards the local Pokémon center anyway. I guess food is cheaper there since we’re league participants.
But it wasn’t all bland cafeteria food- we ran into Candace again, and her mom, who’s apparently a Joystar? Big surprise there. Seems like she’s caught in a struggle between what her dad’s side of the family wants from her and doing what she wants to do with her life. She’s got lots of pressure to perform well as a trainer, but she’s just not feeling Pokémon battles. I don’t envy her, don’t know what I would do if I hated cooking, though I doubt Dad would hold that against me.
Even though we can’t fix that problem now, we did encourage her to try the jamboree when it rolls around, maybe Pokémon contests will be more her speed? I wish her luck with all that.
After our break, we all had ideas on what we wanted to do in the city, so we split up. Nym and Sherman just wanted to rest so they went to the hotel we’d been recommended to get a room for us. Lilly headed off to the college to look for more work and Theo left to explore his own way.
Honestly, I’d kinda felt like I wasn’t pulling my weight much in our last few stops, and it’s pretty clear now that the more money we have the better, so I wanted to take a page out of Lilly’s book and get a temporary job. I mean, this place seemed like it was full of food spots, there had to be somebody in need of a cook!
The first place that caught my eye was this really weird looking eatery called “No Jaunes Gym.” It’s supposed to be like a combo workout gym and restaurant for those gym-ratatta types; all lean and protein heavy foods for building muscle.
I was only standing there for like two seconds, when this ripped guy comes busting through the door, takes one look at my… size… and demands I come in and work out at his gym.
It only took one look to realize the place was a mess. They cooked their chicken to the point it was nearly black, didn’t seem to have left the rice in the pot long enough to get sticky, and made no effort to add any flavor or variety to the dish! This place clearly needed my help, so I struck a deal. They’d pay me, and in exchange I’d make quality meals for them to enjoy that would give them all the muscle building power they could ask for! Though, the leader, Barny, insisted they pay me not just with money, but also with “gains,” as he said. So I guess I’m getting a work out with my paycheck… hopefully this goes well...
